New and Improved Engines
First and foremost, the 2016 911 Carrera is getting a 20 hp boost. The reimagined 370 hp, 3.0 L twin-turbo engine (standard) will take the 911 Carrera to new highs. Slight tweaks to the compressor wheels and exhaust system allows for the 911 Carrera S to utilize up to 420 hp. What Does Mercedes-Benz AMG Mean?
To many auto enthusiasts around the world, AMG conjures memories of vintage Grand Prix racing victories. Those three letters have gained international recognition for being synonymous with excellence. We in the U.S., however, are not nearly as versed in the legacy of AMG.
There are several misconceptions often made about AMG. The actual acronymic meaning of AMG itself often causes confusion. It does not stand for Affalterback Motor Group—the most common erroneous assumption as Affalterback, Germany, is AMG’s traditional headquarters. Nor does it translate to Advanced Mechanical Gurus, Absolute Machine Geeks, or any corny iteration you might have had hanging out in your grey matter. AMG is actually shorthand for the names of founders Hans-Werner Aufrect, Erhard Melcher and Aufrect’s birthplace, Großaspach. It makes sense that they decided to shorten it to the catchy, iconic AMG.
