2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Release Date
The unmistakable Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been roaming the streets for well over three decades. While it has retained its military-esque character and toughness through all those years, it occasionally needs a few updates to enhance performance and give drivers all the latest equipment and amenities. 2016 will be one of those years, as Mercedes-Benz has announcement a number of updates to the G-Class SUV.
Before discussing those updates, we want to touch on the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class release date. According to Mercedes-Benz, the 2016 G-Class will be able available for order overseas in the middle of the year, so we can estimate that the SUV will go on sale in America in late fall or early winter of 2015. The biggest change will be the introduction of a new 4.0-liter biturbo V-8 engine in the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G550. Replacing the 5.5-liter V-8 from the current G550 model, the new biturbo engine is a tuned version of the engines from the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT and AMG C63. The new engine will output 442 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which is only slightly different to what we see from the AMG-GT base model.
The 2016 model year will also mark the first year the AMG G65 model will be available in the United States, boasting a 630 horsepower V-12 engine capable of 737 lb-ft of torque.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Class also will ride on a new suspension configuration that features more sensitive ESP designed to create more stable, better quality ridee. All 2016 G-Class models, excluding the G65, will include ECO start/stop to help increase fuel economy and reduce emissions.
In terms of appearance, Mercedes-Benz isn’t going to stray far from its successful recipe. In select European-spec models, the G-Class will feature AMG flared wheel arches and restyled bumpers, however it remains to be seen how the styling will be affected for North American models.
