2017 Porsche 911 Carrera Redesign, Engine Option and Arrival Date
For shoppers and enthusiasts of the Porsche 911 Carrera, prepare to see a few more heads turn when the redesigned 2017 model passes by. It’s not every year that we get to celebrate a new 911 Carrera, especially one with a brand new engine under the hood. This is one that will be discussed at length because of its break from tradition, so let us help get the discussion rolling by giving you a rundown of the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera redesign, engine option and arrival date.
Sharper Design with Active Aero Technology
A lot of the time manufacturers will use words like “sharper” and “more modern” in ways that aren’t really appropriate and completely oversell the changes that were made to vehicle. This is not the case with the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera. This has received several design changes that really make it a more eye catching vehicle, which is hard to do for a vehicle that is as popular as the 911 Carrera has been!
This roadster has also seen some exterior upgrades that will help it operate better during spirited driving. The front cooling air intakes that feed air into the engine now feature active air flaps that will help the driver better control the vehicle and improve its overall efficiency. An active rear spoiler is also new and will adjust itself based on the angle of attack to feed more air into the vehicle’s intake ports.
What is easily the biggest change to the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera is the addition of a new turbocharger to the infamous flat-six 3.0-liter engine. This turbocharger is where the active rear spoiler comes into play, as well as the active air flaps, because this motor will need more air fed to it to keep it cool. However, Porsche’s engineers and designers have made sure that this engine will always have the boost pressure needed whenever you want to quicken the pace.
As for performance numbers, the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera’s engine now makes 370 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. This represents a 20 hp and 44 lb.-ft of torque improvement over the previous model. The vehicle will come standard with a 7-speed manual and a PDK automatic will be optional.
