The international Consumer Electronics Show, or CES as its more commonly called, is one of most exciting events of the year for tech enthusiasts. But it’s also a pretty great time for the automotive world, as many manufacturers unveil new concept cars and auto tech that evokes incredible optimism for the future of the industry. As you might expect, Mercedes-Benz is at the forefront of that innovation, which was apparent with the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Concept. The fully autonomous car, officially dubbed F 015 Luxury in Motion, is potential glimpse into the future of the luxury segment. While there are a lot of incredible aspects of the concept, we broke it down so you can see the coolest features of the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Concept.
1. It’s fully autonomous
Obviously, the most impressive aspect of the F 015 Concept is its self-driving capabilities. In its press release, Mercedes-Benz notes that as cities continue to grow and more megacities emerge, private space and time will be important luxuries. With self-driving cars, you can enjoy the luxuries of home during your daily commutes.

2. It’s huge and incredibly lightweight
The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Concept is more than 17 feet long with a 142 inch wheelbase. Remember the recently unveiled Maybach we showcased last month? It’s nearly a foot longer than that. Despite its size, the chassis is constructed with a combination lightweight materials including aluminum, high-strength steel, and carbon fiber reinforced plastic. In the end, the F 015 Concept weighs in approximately 40 percent lighter than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
3. It’s quiet and refined
Rather than using a traditional engine, Mercedes-Benz opted for a hydrogen-electric hybrid drivetrain to keep the ride smooth and incredibly quiet. While the hybrid drivetrain may not offer the power of an internal combustion engine, that’s not the focus of the F 015 concept. While it’s not pin-your-ears-back fast, it can zip from 0-60 mph in about 6.5 seconds.
4. It has digital arena
When entering the cabin through the suicide doors (which is awesome) passengers will sit in something called a digital arena. Each chair automatically swings out and there are six displays to which passengers have access. All displays utilize normal touchscreen functions, but also feature eye-tracking and gesture control to manipulate the stereo and climate. A head-up display showcases an augmented reality of what’s happening outside the car. Projectors can also display scenic views on the sides of the vehicle that sync to the speed of the car.
Although we’re at least a decade or two away from the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept becoming reality, the technology and capability to offer these incredible attributes on a larger scale is slowly becoming a reality.
