The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is an absolute monster. There’s no denying it. Whether you’re looking at the G63 AMG or the G550, the ultra-luxurious and massively durable SUV is not to be trifled with. At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz is rolling out another version of its military-rooted SUV, which is being dubbed the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4².
Mercedes-Benz released its first official photo of the new G500 4×4² conquering gravelly terrain and showing off massive tires, but this isn’t the first time we’ve laid eyes on the new model. In late 2014, there were spy shots of the new G-Class, but at that time, many thought it to be a four-wheel version of the G63 6×6.
What to expect from the Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4²
Because it’s bearing the G550 badge, we know the Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4² will get its power from a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V-8 gas engine that will get at least 382 horsepower, however some reports indicate that the engine has been tuned to kick out as many as 422 horses. At this point, it doesn’t appear to be getting AMG treatment, but if the engine is tuned as some reports indicate, there will be plenty of juice behind the wheel of the all-new Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4².
As you can see from the teaser photo, the G500 4×4² sports massive ground clearance and it is expected to ride on 22-inch wheels strapped with off-road tires.
Although the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² is currently marked as a show car, most expect the off-road titan to go into production in the next couple of years. But until the Geneva Motor Show, we’ll have to sit back and wait for more details regarding the new Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4².
In the meantime, you can take a look at the 2015 Mercedes-Benz G-Class models on the lot and get behind the wheel to experience the 5.5-liter engine that will power the new model, in one form or another.
