Mercedes-Benz introduces the first touch pad steering wheel
We are now over halfway through the 2010s decade, and already in this decade, our lives have become more digitized. Books, life organizers, and easy access information are now available to us in a hand-sized smartphone. The automotive industry is embracing the rising digital trend by adding more infotainment and interior technology options to their vehicles. Of course, it is not enough to simply keep up with the rising trend. Automakers need to be ready to set the next trend by releasing newer and more innovative designs and technology. Mercedes-Benz has accomplished this by being the first automaker to introduce a touch pad steering wheel.
Digital but Uncluttered Steering Wheel
In addition to digital anything and everything, consumers are embracing the uncluttered trend. It adds sophistication and causes less stress. Having less clutter equals simpler living. And simpler driving. With the touch pad steering wheel from Mercedes-Benz, many of the controls usually found on steering wheels involving vehicle settings and infotainment have almost disappeared. Within the spokes of the steering wheel, the touch pad is easy to access and you are able to swipe like a smartphone. The swiping allows you to toggle through all of the different options available, such as music or navigation. All of this will allow you to keep your eyes where they need to be, which is on the road!
If you are wondering which Mercedes-Benz vehicle will be the first to offer the touch pad steering wheel, the answer is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class. This vehicle with its technology features was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in the middle of January, and will also be making an appearance at the Chicago Auto Show in February.
