Innovation is what keeps Mercedes-Benz ahead of the game. With each new model, we are introduced to new technology that help make the driving experiences safer, easier or more convenient. Things like Mercedes-Benz Attention Assist, the HomeLink Garage Door Opener, and Active Parking Assist represent amenities that add to the overall excellence of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
While those aforementioned components add to the overall convenience and safety of your drive, Mercedes-Benz also makes sure its owners and occupants enjoy a comfortable ride, which is where Magic Body Control comes into the picture.
Mercedes-Benz Magic Body Control utilizes stereo cameras to monitor the surface of the road as you drive. This camera system, called ROAD SURFACE SCAN, recognizes bumps and potholes in the road and sends a message to automatically adjust the suspension to counteract uneven areas of the road.
The ROAD SURFACE SCAN camera system works in tandem with the Active Body Control suspension, a system that uses a combination of active suspension and passive damping to provide superior comfort and driver control. Simply put, the Active Body Control suspension takes acceleration signals and triggers the suspension to act in accordance with any cornering, accelerating, or braking to avoid body roll.
Rather than reacting in as you hit each bump, Mercedes-Benz Magic Body Control actually anticipates the road’s uneven surfaces and makes the necessary adjustments before the car hits them, which makes the spectacular ride quality of a Mercedes-Benz even better.
The cameras are capable of measuring surfaces within 3 mm, so the suspension reacts in accordance with the road’s surface.
Mercedes-Benz Magic Body Control is currently available in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, however we expect to see it filter down to other models in the coming years.
