Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE with Pedestrian Recognition

PRE-SAFE is the comprehensive safety system available in select new Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It offers extra help with drivers braking in order to help cut down reaction times, avoid accidents and reduce the severity of accidents.

With its Pedestrian Recognition feature, your Mercedes-Benz vehicle is able to recognize when a pedestrian is crossing your path, and apply the PRE-SAFE brake accordingly. Your model is equipped with a stereo camera as well as a system of long (200 meters), medium (60 meters) and short (30 meters) range radar.

These various radars monitor the area ahead of your vehicle. When your vehicle sensing something entering its path, it gives the driver a visual and audible warnings. From there, the system ensures that the optimal amount of brake is applied, even if the driver does not press down on the pedal hard enough.
In case the driver does not react, autonomous braking may occur as necessary. The PRE-SAFE system with Pedestrian Recognition and can stop collisions with pedestrians up to approximately 30 miles per hour. Additionally, the severity of an accident can be reduced significantly at higher speeds of approximately 45 miles per hour.
