Mercedes-Benz Preventative Safety Features

If you have been researching, or even own a Mercedes-Benz model, chances are you have been hearing a lot of words regarding vehicle safety like “DISSTRONIC PLUS” and “ACTIVE LANE KEEPING”. Since these aren’t really everyday automotive words, you may not really know what these words mean or what they do for a Mercedes-Benz driver. To better help everyone understand just how innovative Mercedes-Benz is becoming with their safety features, we have decided to provide an overview of a few terms.

PRE-SAFE®

Many Mercedes-Benz vehicles come with these features as standard and available features

PRE-SAFE® is exactly what it sounds like, it is preventive safety measures. A Mercedes-Benz vehicle with PRE-SAFE® helps better protect against unavoidable roadside accidents. PRE-SAFE® can do things like tightened seatbelts when the vehicle starts to skid and even automatically close windows to better prepare vehicle occupants from the restraint system. PRE-SAFE® is achieved with tiny cameras and sensors throughout the vehicle.

DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE Brake

DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE Brake is designed to protect a driver and vehicle occupants in case they become distracted while driving. Deploying sensors, DISTRONIC PLUS with PRE-SAFE Brake scans the road ahead for stopped or slow moving traffic, if it senses the vehicle is moving too fast and a collision may occur, visual and audible alerts are used along with automatic braking to prevent the vehicle from crashing into an object in front of it.

ATTENTION ASSIST

ATTENTION ASSIST learns each driver’s individual driving habits and patterns. As you continue to drive your Mercedes-Benz vehicle, if the ATTENTION ASSIST recognizes you are not driving as you usually do as a result of drowsiness, the vehicle alerts you with visual and audio cues to make sure you are not endangering yourself, passengers or other vehicles on the road.

Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist

Notice the red indicator telling the driver there is a vehicle in its blindspot

Even the most cautious drivers sometime miss objects in their blind spot; this is where Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist comes into play. Using sensors, Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist keeps track of vehicles alongside of your Mercedes-Benz and then indicates you with a red icon that a vehicle has moved into your blind spot. These same cameras and sensors also keep track of road markings to make sure you do not leave your lane by accident or without signaling.
