Memorial Day Chicago IL

2014 Memorial Day Events Chicago IL

The unofficial start of summer is about much more than a three-day weekend and the prospect of enjoying the great outdoors. It’s about remembering and honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. While there will never be enough we can do to repay the brave men and women who have served and died for our country, the least we can do is come together as a community to honor the fallen and show our gratitude for those who continue to risk their lives for us. With that in mind, take note of the following 2014 Memorial Day events in Chicago IL and find some time this weekend to honor America’s fallen armed forces.

Memorial Day Parade ChicagoMemorial Day Parade & Ceremony – May 24

Chicago’s Memorial Day events will begin with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Eternal Flame on the Richard J. Daley Center Plaza at 11 a.m. Saturday May 24. That touching commemoration ceremony will be followed by Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade, which runs south from Lake St. to Van Buren Street. Congresswoman from Illinois’ 8th District, Lt. Col. Tammy Duckworth, will be Grand Marshal for the parade.

Fireworks at Navy Pier – May 24

Saturday May 24 marks the return of fireworks at Navy Pier for 2014. While there are a lot of opportunities to view the fireworks at Navy Pier throughout the summer, nothing says summer like Fireworks on the Pier. There are few better ways to reflect on Memorial Day than with a symbol of American pride.

Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery

While it is located about 50 miles south of Chicago in Elwood, Ill., visiting the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery is perhaps the most tangible way to grasp the gravity of the day. While the cemetery is closed on most National holidays, it remains open for Memorial Day to allow people to pay their respects to the fallen military.

As a Chicago Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Smart and Sprinter dealership, active and retired military members can ask about military discounts available to them throughout the year. With the upcoming arrival of the 2015 Porsche Macan and 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, there are plenty of opportunities to treat yourself this summer at Loeber Motors.
