2017 Porsche 718 Cayman Upgrades and Release Date
The 718’s are coming! The 718’s are coming! When this invasion happens, we will all be glad that it did. Well, except for those of you in a little red Corvette. You might want to get out of the way before these beasts move you out of the way. Following the announcement of the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster models, we have now been informed on the 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman upgrades and release date.
Say Hello to the Turbocharged Flat-Fours
While the body of the 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman looks similar to the previous model, there are two new motors just waiting to roar to life underneath its hood. Replacing the outgoing flat-six engines are two turbocharged flat-four cylinder motors. The 2.0-liter in the 718 Cayman produces 300 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft of torque, while the 2.5-liter in the 718 Cayman S boasts 350 horsepower and 309 lb.-ft of torque.
What makes the 2.5-liter in the 718 Cayman S so unique is the technology it utilizes to help it run such quick times. The variable turbine geometry, as well as an integrated wastegate, help make sure you are getting the full amount of boost whenever you feel the need for it. This helps to give the Cayman S a top track speed of 177 mph (the Cayman is 170) and a 0 to 60 sprint time of 4.0 seconds (the Cayman is 4.5).
Retuned Suspension Provides a Race Like Experience
Where drivers will most likely feel the difference between the 2017 718 Cayman and the previous model is when they are actually driving the vehicle. This new model now features firmer springs and sway bars, in addition to the retuned shock absorbers. All of these upgrades work together to provide you with better lateral grip and tracking stability. Additionally, the steering rack is now more responsive, by 10 percent, than the outgoing Cayman.
