How Fast is the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R at the Nurburgring?
Ever since the Mercedes-AMG GT R made its debut, the sports car has impressed from a statistical standpoint. Everything about the vehicle sounds impressive, from its 577 horsepower engine to its 198 mph top speed. But how does all of that performance actually transition to the real world? To find out, Mercedes-AMG took the GT R to the most grueling racetrack in the world, the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R, nicknamed “The Beast of the Green Hell” (which is a famous nickname for the North Loop of the Nurburgring) turned a lap of 7 minutes and 10.9 seconds at the famous German track. The vehicle no doubt utilized some of its advanced performance systems to achieve the fastest time of any road-going sports car ever tested at the track. This includes the modified sport suspension and the active rear-axle steering system.
For those of you that are not familiar with the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R, this is a whole new beast in the high-profile GT class. This is, frankly, the most insane GT model that Mercedes-AMG has ever designed. Under the hood is a massive handcrafted AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with 3,982 cc of displacement. As we said, it churns out 577 horsepower and 516 lb.-ft of torque. Mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed transmission, this model will do 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
