Mercedes-Benz gave us a sneak peak at the interior of the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class last week. What we saw was truly groundbreaking.
Drawing comparisons to the interior of the S-Class, one of the most fully-equipped and advanced cars on the road today, the next-generation E-Class looks at least a step ahead of the competition in the midsize luxury sedan segment.
While the overall design and air of sophistication is immediately present, the E-Class will feature an array of new standard and available technologies that will add more convenience, safety and entertainment to the vehicle. We gathered some of the best for you to look forward to leading up to the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2016. You can also take a visual tour of the E-Class interior in the video below.
Steering-Wheel Mounted Touch-Sensitive Controls
That’s a mouthful, but it’s worth remembering, because it will take infotainment system use to another level. This technology, which is the first of its kind in the automotive industry, features touch-sensitive control buttons on the steering wheel that allow the driver to navigate through the infotainment system using finger swipes. Not only does this add convenience, but also safety, as drivers will be able to control entertainment, navigation and other aspects of the infotainment system without taking their hands off the wheel.
Customizable Dual 12.3-inch Displays
The first things you’ll probably notice inside the 2017 E-Class are the dual 12.3-inch high-resolution displays — one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system. These side-by-side displays are covered in glass, providing a flat-screen look. Better yet, drivers can choose between a few different screen designs — Classic, Sport and Progressive.
High-Resolution Visualizations and Animations
While the displays themselves are stunning, the visuals within those displays are also more advanced. Mercedes-Benz has created two new departments to better design and implement the graphics you see on your vehicle displays. The progress they’ve made is evident in the 2017 E-Class.
Burmester® High-End 3D Sound
Through the 1,450-watt Burmester® High-End 3D sound system, which contains 23 speakers, E-Class occupants will have a listening experience reminiscent of a concert hall. AutoBlog writer Stephen Ewing referred to the system as “incredible” and said that “music never sounded so good” after getting an opportunity to experience the E-Class interior in Germany. You can read his entire review here.
64 Ambient Light Colors
Talk about personalization. The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class allows drivers to add their personal touches when it comes to interior ambience. As you well know, the subtle lighting of the interior can change the entire complexion and character of a vehicle, and with 64 choices, it becomes more personal than ever.
There are many 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class details to be ironed out, and at this point, we’ve only scratched the surface of what to expect. Look for more E-Class updates and information, including its release date, when it debuts in January.
