Mercedes-AMG Brand Expansion
For decades, AMG has been one of the biggest names in automotive performance. And for much of that time, exclusivity has been a big part of the brand. That tide is starting to turn, at least subtly, as AMG announced it has plans for at least 10 more models by the end of the year.
With that news, some automotive bloggers declared the end of the prestigious AMG brand with headlines like, “Is AMG Dead” although the writer did admit to a cheeky click-bait headline in the article. But the Mercedes-AMG brand expansion does counter some of the exclusivity that it has stood for a long time, at least in the minds of some.
But overall, most find the news incredibly exciting, as 10 more AMG models by the end of the year means there will be more incredible performance luxury cars for sale.
What AMG models will be added by the end of 2016?
The dawn of the new AMG43 series is going to account for the bulk of the 10 modiels that are expected to be added. Mercedes-AMG has not revealed a complete list of the AMG models set for release in 2016, but aside from the 10 that are yet to come, here are a few of the already announced AMG models for 2016.
- Mercedes-AMG GLC43
- Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe
- Mercedes-AMG C43
- Mercedes-AMG E43
- Mercedes-AMG C63 Cabriolet
These represent just a fraction of the 38 models currently available, and with the 10 more planned for 2016, there will be 48 AMG models available at year’s end.
Currently, Mercedes-AMG models are sold and select Mercedes-Benz dealerships, but with the brand expansion, it will also test standalone stores in Japan and possibly Australia. If successful, this could be something we see on U.S. shores at some point.
