2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 vs CLA45 AMG
When the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class burst onto the scene a couple years ago, the opportunity to own a Mercedes-Benz for approximately $30,000 grabbed the attention of luxury-car hopefuls everywhere. While the budget-friendly, yet luxury-focused CLA250 is the most popular model in the CLA-Class range, it’s not the only model. As the performance-focused sibling of the CLA250, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG brings a new focus on performance to the four-door luxury coupe segment. While the two clearly have a number of similarities when it comes to their styling and design, they provide two distinct driving experiences that cater to different groups of drivers.
The most striking differences come under the sheetmetal, where the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG unsurprisingly utilizes AMG components, such as AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive, performance brakes, and a sport exhaust system. An AMG performance suspension with higher spring and damping rates also is available.
Although the CLA250 lacks the performance-focused AMG components, it rides on a sport-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension and features available 4MATIC all-wheel drive to provide exhilarating performance and confidence, even in Chicago’s harsh winters.

The base CLA250 direct-injection unit delivers 208 horsepower while the CLA45 AMG hosts a handcrafted engine tuned to generate 355 horsepower.
While the benefit of increased power and performance are prevalent in the Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, it isn’t quite as efficient as the CLA250. The base CLA250 model delivers an estimated 38 mpg on the highway compared to the 31 mpg rating of the CLA45 AMG.
